While this was also possible in the earlier titles to some extent, Spellforce 3 expands this by allowing each player to control a different faction, so now one play is able to focus on the strategy and building aspects while another is able to control the heroes and armies in a micro-management focused gameplay while both expore the map at the same time.
If you like to play with friends, Spellforce 3 offers a cooperative game mode that allows you to play the whole campaign in multiplayer. Carefully exploring the game world is definitely advised! There are a ton of magic armors, helmets, amulets, rings, shields and weapons to find that make your character stronger or more prone to enemy attacks. Along your way, you will find many items to equip your character with. Three of these you are able to select and combine, so you can for example play a full-on warrior, an elementalist with ranged weapons or a tank with experiences in white and black magic spells. There are six skill trees to choose from: “Brutality” (Melee combat), “Discipline” (Defensive abilities), “Archery” (Ranged combat) and the three kinds of magic: “Elementalism”, “White Magic” and “Black Magic”, each with their own set of offensive and defensive spells. You are able to select one of the pre-defined classes or distribute your attribute and skill points freely to fit your preferred gameplay. In the story campaign, you are able to design your own hero in a detailed character creator, which allows you to specify the looks and skills of your avatar. The Elves, on the other hand, focus on tactics and magic to compensate their lack of physical strength. While the Humans are proficient in building large bases and war machines, the Orcs tame wild beasts to ride into battle and giant trolls that have the power of many men. Each of these races has of course special buildings and units that support a certain type of gameplay. In Spellforce 3, you have the choice of playing as one of three races: Humans, Orcs and Eleves.
